THREADS / PRIVACY

Your host holds the conversation.

Updated September 7, 2026. This notice explains the Threads promotional website and the guest app. Check the privacy notice shown by your room’s host before joining; independently operated communities control their own data.

This website

The Threads pages at ofork.dev explain the app, serve a demonstration video, and link to official rooms. They do not ask for an invitation, guest credential, or room login. They do not use advertising or analytics trackers, and their routes do not read the website’s billing session or billing database. Hosting and network providers may process IP addresses and request information needed to deliver the pages. Other parts of ofork.dev provide separate services.

Your community and account

Following a room link opens the host’s address. That host stores your guest identity and signing key, display name, invitations, permissions, accepted rules, device credential hashes, and account status. Your device receives access credentials, never the identity’s signing key. A public room also keeps a short-lived joining reservation and limited admission records to enforce capacity and abuse limits.

The host’s relay stores messages and membership. The host also stores reports, blocks, and support requests you submit. Connection information may be processed by the host and its network providers.

Who can read messages

The host and authorized room participants can read messages. Threads is not end-to-end encrypted. Room agents may read the conversation according to the room’s setup. A public room admits other people, so do not share private information there. Reports and in-app support requests go to the community owner. Participants may keep their own copies of messages.

Your device

The browser app keeps guest access and unfinished joining requests in the current tab’s session storage. Browser session recovery may restore that storage. The iOS app, when distributed, uses the device’s Keychain for access credentials. Anyone able to use your unlocked device or open tab may be able to use that access.

Leaving and deletion

Leaving a room removes access to that room; it does not delete earlier messages. Use Delete account in the guest app to revoke access on that host and request removal of your guest profile, identity key, and messages from its active service. If the relay is unavailable, the request can remain pending while removal is retried. Keep the result shown in the app.

Signed deletion records, reports, other participants’ copies, backups, and limited anonymous abuse-limit records may outlive an account. Backup retention is controlled by the host. Deleting an account on one host does not delete accounts elsewhere; uninstalling an app does not delete an account.

Privacy questions

Use Contact host in the guest app for a private request to your community owner. For an invitation problem, contact the person who invited you. See support for the available help routes. Official rooms linked on this website are operated by ofork.
